SCOOP’S MISSION:

TO BE AN AGENT OF POSITIVE CHANGE,
HELPING COMMUNITIES MAKE INFORMED DECISIONS.

WHY WE DO IT:

In these complex times, the need for good information and public debate is greater than ever. But there are few spaces that act as a good forum for debates, with unfiltered content, investigative journalism and informed comment. Algorithms make it harder for people to be fully informed on the issues that matter; not exposing them to differing points of view, to challenge ideas that may modify their opinions.

For over 22 years Scoop has been a crucial source of direct, unbiased and uncensored news. Our readers rely on Scoop to provide a truly independent platform for the participants in our national debate to be heard, and to enable them access the information they need.

SCOOP’S PRO MODEL:

Traditional news business models have been in crisis for some time now. To solve this Scoop started the Ethical Paywall model with Scoop Pro, where organisations pay a reasonable fee for using Scoop for professional use.

This in turn keeps Scoop accessible for the general public for personal use for free, Scoop believes this wide access to important news and information can help support a healthy democracy and in turn a healthy society.

Under the Ethical Paywall model, all staff in our 300+ Scoop Pro organisations enjoy easy access to Scoop and additional benefits including Pro news tools.

ABOUT SCOOP & IT’S STRUCTURE:

Scoop Publishing Limited (SPL) is a social enterprise which operates the Scoop.co.nz platform with a small team including editorial and business staff. SPL is wholly owned by the Scoop Foundation for Public Interest Journalism a Not-For-Profit charitable trust established in 2015. Scoop is a part of the Enspiral Network of impact oriented ventures which has improved and decentralised organisational management and practices. Under this structure profits SPL makes go to the Scoop Foundation to support Public Interest journalism projects like this one produced in 2016 on PND in NZ and this one funded in 2017 on Earthquakes and content on The Dig.
